Lesson Objective
By the end of this lesson students will be able to: (Click Here)
1. Recall the key steps involved in the drafting stage of the writing process.
2. Explain the purpose of drafting.
3. Describe how the drafting stage differs from prewriting and revising.
3. Break down ideas into meaningful sections (introduction, body, and conclusion).
The drafting stage of writing is the phase in the writing process where you take the ideas gathered during prewriting and begin to turn them into full sentences and paragraphs. It is the stage where the writer focuses on getting ideas down on paper in a logical order, without worrying too much about errors (Judy Zorfass, Tracy Gray, 2025).
LESSON ON DRAFTING
1. Expanding Ideas
You develop your main points with supporting details, examples, and explanations.
2. Organizing into Paragraphs
Ideas are arranged into sections such as an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion.
3. Focusing on Content Over Perfection
This stage is not about grammar, spelling, or polishing. The goal is to get ideas written so they can be improved later.
4. Using Transitions
Writers begin connecting their ideas using words and phrases that help the writing flow smoothly.
5. Following the Prewriting Plan
The draft is built from brainstorming, outlines, graphic organizers, or any planning steps done earlier (“Teaching with Nelsi”).
